With their only loss occuring during a championship game, they did succeed during that round to complete two one-hitters against perennial power houses High Heat Kings and Tri State Arsenal. Team: Culpeper Cardinals CULPEPER
« The Culpeper Cardinals 13U travel baseball team just completed a very successful 2009 fall baseball season. Among some of their accomplishments, the Cardinals won the USSSA AA 13U State tournament played at Hampton, Va. in September. They went 5-0 for the tournament and it marked the first major tourney win for the Cardinals. Player highlights would include Nate Yates hitting over .500 for the entire weekend and Logan Sharp with multiple extra base hits. They would also post the best record in the Piedmont Travel League at 8-1, along with winning their league playoff double elimination tourney. In this tournament, Cardinal pitchers Brock Smith and Corey Slawson held their opponents to a combined 2 runs and 6 hits for the entire weekend, while AJ Stead tossed a no-hitter in the championship game. Austin Huff caught all 3 playoff games and provided some muscle at the plate with a powerful display in the last game. Team stat leaders include: Batting Avg. - Nate Yates (.500), Austin Huff (.458) and Brock Smith (.400). Most RBI's - Corey Slawson (15). Team leaders with most walks - Andrew Lambdin, Zac Tocker and Brandon Walker. Sacrifice Hit leader - Matt Hall. Most improved hitters included Stuart Paz and Jacob Jackson. Head Coach Kenny Jackson was assisted by David Huff, Doug Olms, Brian Smith and Eddie Torrez. This fall season was also made very successful due to the hard work and support of all the Cardinal parents as well. Check us out on www.culpepercardinals.teamopolis.com. »
