Placing ones left foot further up the third-base line is a safer position. Approx 1'-2'
up the line has been very kind to me over the last 30 years of catching. I am happy to say no collisions that were ever head-on. Runners tend to see a big unguarded
plate. The tag becomes a baseball bat-like swing down to the left and rotational. Rarely is any interference to the catchers possible next play. If there is a simple roll over or around runner is automatic due
to swinging tag.
